Havanese are intelligent, acrobatic entertainers, rambunctious, and love to be with their human family members. Some say they are “Velcro dogs” as wherever you are, they are. Others say they are like Lay’s potato chips, “you can’t have just one.”

After several years of begging for a show/breeding quality female from any breeder I could find that would listen to me, Nancy Martin of Liveoak Kennels took a chance with me, as I was totally inexperienced in showing dogs and lived in Utah where we have three shows (only two of which could you even remotely call a medium-sized show). I went to Southern California to visit with Nancy and get on her “waiting list.” Several years later and AFTER she moved to North Carolina, I was finally able to get Liveoak’s Southern Charm as my first show quality Havanese.  Every show has been a learning experience for me and after one year of showing Kizzy (a total of 19 shows, including the National Havanese Specialty in Chicago where Kizzy took 4th in her class), she finished her championship in Boise, Idaho. Most of those 19 shows were not major point wins because there just aren’t that many Havanese being shown in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada, where most of the shows were that we went to.

Kizzy is extremely intelligent and earned her rally novice title very quickly. Rally competition was being offered at the National Specialty and so I bought a book and learned how to compete in rally. Thank goodness Kizzy is very easy to train and doesn’t forget a trick because we may not practice for days or weeks at a time. As soon as she is able and I can get my rear in gear, we will advance through rally and then start on agility, as Kizzy, like most Havanese, is very fast and agile and can compete with the best of them.

Kizzy is a very affectionate and sensitive girl and loves to play tug-of-war. She will give you kisses as long as you will let her and loves to be loved right back.  She has proved herself to be an excellent mommy and has produced two beautiful litters for us and all of the puppies have inherited her love to give face-washing kisses!!
