The “Little Flirt” and is she ever!!! Cookie used to go everywhere with me, including all the stores (back in the days when you could take them inside) and everyone fell in love with her and wanted to know what kind of dog she was. We took her to the park one day and she climbed up the ladder to the slide and went down the slide all by herself. When she saw how everyone loved it and paid attention to her, she just kept doing it over and over again, as long as someone was watching. I used to take her to rest homes and nursing homes where she entertained the patients with her back flips (yes, back flips), jumping through hoops (either parallel or perpendicular to the floor), and all the other tricks she did, and she let them pet and caress her, even though some were a little heavy-handed. They loved it and so did she.
No one was a stranger to Cookie. People would ask me if she would bite them and I would answer “No, but she might lick you to death.” All anyone needed to do was notice her and she was immediately wagging her tail and kissing them. When our little toddler-age grandchildren would come over, she would entertain them by chasing her tail in front of them and making them laugh. If they got too close for comfort, Cookie would turn around and lick them in the face as her defense. Most of them didn’t like that, but that defense mechanism didn’t work with a few of them.
Cookie slowed down the last year and a half. Her eyesight was fading and so was her hearing. But, she was still loving and affectionate and still giving joy to everyone around her. Now that Cookie has passed on... she is sorely missed. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her and get tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat.
