Ever since I first got Cookie in 1991, I wanted to have more Havanese. They are such a loving and energetic little breed. Our Havanese are on the small end of the standard, which is anywhere from 8.5 inches to 11.5 inches tall. Kizzy, Reme and Strider are about 9.25 inches tall and weigh about 9.5 pounds and both Karli and Trudy are just under 9 inches tall and weigh about 8.5 pounds. Nelson is still growing and is now about 8.5 inches tall. I love the smaller Havanese because they are such cuddly little lap dogs and it is my opinion that they fit within the toy group a lot better than the Havanese that are on the larger side of the scale. Critical elements that make a Havanese a Havanese are the following:
they have a slight rise in their topline (from their shoulders to their rump),
they are slightly longer than they are tall,
they have a springy and elegant gait,
soft, silky, wavy and abundant double coat,
a broad backskull with large dark almond-shaped eyes with a full rectangular muzzle, and
they are intelligent, playful, sweet and non-quarrelsome.
Our goal here at Beseme Havanese is to breed healthy puppies that come as close to the standard as possible. If you've never met a Havanese before, feel free to give us a call and come and meet and play with our girls and boys up close and "pawrsonal."
